The world wide web has become a launchpad for a lot of would-be entrepreneurs, artists, and the like. There have been a lot of success stories of those who caught a big wave and were able to make quite a bit of money in a short amount of time. You, however? You should know that your story is going to be a little different. You are going to have to work damn hard to get where you want to go.
After about 100 of them, though, they start to look the same. Everybody is saying the same thing. Maybe it’s because the path to riches is really narrow, or maybe it’s because people just want to look like an expert.
I’m here to tell you that a lot of these articles are jokes. They aren’t really helping you towards a better life. And here’s why:
1.) You Don’t Know Why You Even Want To Be Rich
Don’t take a little kid to Toys R Us and expect to have a wonderful afternoon. You will be badgered at every corner, at every toy. Every single toy is the most exciting thing. Everything must be acquired. Does the kid even know what most of these toys even are? What they do? Probably not.
A lot of us are still like that little kid. We see money and we just get this feeling. Of wanting to have. But do we know the reason? Is it even a reason that is worth the trouble?
2.) Your Reasons For Getting Rich Are Shabby
Like I said, you don’t know why you even want to be rich. The reasons are there, you just aren’t aware of them. And the truth is, they are probably pretty horrible. Sure, we have high hopes of becoming charitable human beings and using our money for good, but usually what we end up spending it on are things like the new Droid phone or turning our air conditioner down to 60 degrees.
3.) You’ll Constantly Look For Shortcuts
Look at of the online articles on getting rich. They are all about the quick route, the fast money. They offer things like “4,000 Ways to Get Rich NOW!” or “21 Proven Principles To Put Cash Directly Into Your Wallet At This Exact Second.”
Maybe these things do work. Maybe it’s good advice. But probably not. For even the experts, the road is hard. If they make their money in a short amount of time it’s because they crammed so much effort into that small amount of time. They got down and dirty. It still took work, and that is what you’ll be trying to avoid after reading these get rich quick articles.
5.) Over A Certain Point, Increased Money Doesn’t Equate To Increased Happiness
Money is no doubt a factor in one’s happiness. If you are in debt and stressed out all of the time, then it can be hard to be in a good mood. However, over a certain point, the day to day mood of the person does not change. That point is apparently 75,000 dollars a year in salary according to the article provided.
Those who go over this amount, while they do feel better about their life as a whole, don’t have a significant difference in their day to day feelings. What does this say about the nature of happiness?
6.) The Best Things Don’t Have A Price Tag
You’ve heard this since you were the little kid in the toy store. The things that truly matter, the intangibles, cannot be bought. Things like strength, honor, courage, trust, and virtue. These things simply must be acquired through years of experience and striving towards wisdom.
7.) You’ll Regret All Of The Work Later
“All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.”
8.) Values Are Fickle
What you want now is not what you wanted just a couple of years ago, and the same is true of your future wants. Just as soon as you get the Ipad 4 the number 7 will be out. Focus on the timeless values, virtues that are good no matter what the situation. These will be all the more useful to lead to a wholesome life.
9.) You’ll Never Keep Up With The Jones’
People you know will always have some cool gadget that you don’t. Don’t worry about it so much. Merely trying to keep up with the latest fashion will only burn you out on things you really don’t even care about.
10.) Wealth Doesn’t Really Reflect Anything
The internet has the ability to make complete unknowns into household names. A celebrity status is not attained through the work you do, or even what you produce. It’s attained by the desires of the mob. It takes putting forth something that will go viral, and spread across the internet like wildfire. Don’t think that just because you have money you will be respected and admired for being a wonderful person.
11.) Money Is A Tool For Larger Ordeals
You make money to use it on other things. It does no good on its own, unless you want to build a fire. Therefore it is important to understand that what you use it on counts. It determines what other decisions you will make. If I decide to go in over my head and buy the mansion, then I’ll be spending it on a house I don’t even need.
If I had instead spent it on things that actually helped me grow as a person, I would be putting it to a good use, one that makes sense.
Money is one of the most worried about things these days. Worry about it if you like, but worry about it in the right way. What will it be spent on once I get it? Is it even worth it to go after more wealth if I’m just using it for horrible reasons?
